Good Evening, Sweet Baby,

I am home from Pearl's. When I got there, I saw your Sweet Baby post and I loved, loved, loved it! It made my day, in fact. I hope your day was good and that you are enjoying your evening. We had a good morning in church and choir, and we got some good news about our director, who had successful surgery. She still has to undergo a lot of treatment, so her ordeal isn't over, but they think they caught her cancer early, so that's a blessing.

We sang real well, too, and I always have fun practicing afterwards as well.

Now, I am gonna meet my friend Dave F. for a walk. I will be back later on at Pearl's, but I wanted to check in and tell you I Love You.

Midnight : It's Sweet Dreams time, so I'm just checking in to send them to you, my Darling. I am tired tonight, did an extra mile on the walk. My friend Dave brought his daughter along and we went down to the duck pond at the Orange Grove. It's finally Summer weather, upper 80s today and no more overcast. Yay!

I forgot to mention today's movie. I am temporarily out of Westerns, but I watched a great Film Noir called "The Street With No Name" from 1948, starring a guy named Mark Stevens, who had a pretty long career and was also in the classic "insane asylum" flick "The Snake Pit". When I was a kid, that's what they called 'em - "Insane Asylums", an unfortunate term for a mental institution that also scared the heck out of little kids like me, haha. Anyway, "The Snake Pit" is a classic, and today's movie was pretty good too, the story of an FBI agent working undercover to infiltrate a criminal gang headed by Richard Widmark, who is in sinister mode in this one. Widmark is one of my favorite actors from that era, and he was in a lot of classic Film Noirs himself, often as a psychotic criminal, his specialty.

I love Film Noir, and my all-time favorite in the genre is "Laura" starring Gene Tierney. But there's a bunch of good ones, and the Film Noir genre is always worth checking out for classic, shadowy black and white photography.

Late Night Love & Bands & Concerts

Happy Late Night, my Darling,

I hope you had a nice Saturday. I saw your Ultrea post a little while ago, and so maybe you went to see them in Illinois? Just guessing. I Googled Barrington Hills, and it says it's 40 miles northwest of Chicago, so perhaps you made a road trip. But even if not, I hope you had a nice night.

You know, there are several up and coming bands with female lead singers now. In the L.A.club scene, bands like Dead Sara are playing all the time. There are others, too (names escape me at the moment), but that configuration - of a hard rock band, with pop elements but a dark side too, with a female lead singer - is growing in popularity. I see Ultrea is doing a tour of the Midwest. And they have their EP coming out. If they can get some radio play in the area, that could be an excellent development for you. Just a thought, but an important one....  :)

Once June comes up, I have a few concerts to go to myself : possibly to see Todd Rundgren next week at the Roxy. Todd is one of my very favorite artists, all-time Top Ten for me, but I haven't seen him live since 1990! His output for the last 25 years has been uneven, but he was so incredible in the 1970s as to cement his incredibleness forever, haha. Also coming up is Agalloch on June 9th. Already got my ticket for that one. Grim is coming with me. It will be my third Agalloch show since 2012. I am always up front and center for when John brings out the tree stumps and lights the incense, so hopefully I will make it up there this time, too. Lastly, I've got Steven Wilson on June 13. I've seen him twice before, also since 2012, and twice with Porcupine Tree as well. He always puts on an amazing show, so I am super looking forward to that one.

It's been quiet on the concert front for a while, but it's about to pick up now that Summer is here.

Well, that's all for tonight. Tomorrow is church and choir. Hopefully we will get some good news about our director. Can't wait to sing in the morning.

Happy Friday Night Love (sweet dreams & Milky Way)

Hi Sweet Baby,

I am home from Pearl's and just wanted to wish you a good start to your weekend. Grimsley is gonna come over in a little while, at 7:45. He wants to show me some tape of the final Letterman show, or something. With Grim it's almost always late night comedy stuff. Anyway, we'll see what he brings. This afternoon, I continued my Western kick with "The Bravados" (1958) starring Gregory Peck as a man out to find the killers of his wife. I'll put Peck up there with Randolph Scott and Jimmy Stewart as a top notch Western Hero, and this movie was excellent, with beautiful Cinemascope photography and what appeared to be Arizona or Texas scenery. I'm on a roll lately with my movies......   :)

I saw a couple of your posts, one of your friend's selfie. I got a kick out of her reference to Myspace, except I didn't get why the picture itself was so Myspace-looking. But I miss Myspace! I mean, I love FB (except when they mess up our communication, doggonnit!), but I also really liked Myspace, the way you could customise it, and just kind of have more of a one-on-one with people. Plus, it's where I wrote to you for the first year, so it has a special place in my heart just for that reason.

I hope you are enjoying your Friday night, perhaps at the studio, or with friends? Even if you are just doing something alone, that's still awesome. That's me, 90% of the time, and I don't mind too much. As long as it is interesting, it doesn't matter if you're alone or with friends. Except for Disneyland, the only place you absolutely cannot go alone.

So you've gotta come with me.  :):)

Midnight : Hi, my Darling. I am here in Pearl's kitchen and all is quiet. Did you have a nice evening? I hung out with Grim for a while, watched the Letterman tape he brought. I forgot to mention that I hope you had a nice time at the cinema showcase yesterday.

In the picture you posted of the Wisconsin night sky the other night, I also forgot to mention the awesome sight of the Milky Way. I know you are close to Madison, a fair-sized city, but can you see a lot of stars in the night sky, or even a bit of the Milky Way? I have never seen it, but I imagine it would be pretty amazing.

That's all for tonight, my girl. After next week, I have five days off, so that will be nice.

Hi my Darling,

I am just getting home from Pearl's hair appointment. I saw your portrait of Stephane a few minutes ago, and my reaction was "Holy Smokes! She can do that, too"?! Now lemme get this straight - I already knew you could sing, play piano, write music, take excellent photographs and make professional videos, but......

.....you're telling me you can draw on a professional level as well? My Goodness! Who knew?

Girl, that is an amazing portrait. All the shading, the three-dimensionality, the shine on the boots. Everything. So, you really are an all-around Artist, and all this time I did not know you could draw like that. Boy, are you ever glad now that you got your art certificate and changed your major. You have apparently had natural artistic talent from the word "go".

"Impressed" barely covers it for me. Now, I didn't push the "like" button on FB because I figure it's for you and Stephane. I mean, that part I don't know about, and I only say that because it's "baby" Stephane, and I am always posting "baby" this and "baby" that (in songs), and I know Stephane was originally your Baby. I assume he is maybe home from school? Anyway, once again because of our extremely limited form of communication, I have no way of knowing many things, and one of those things could be - only supposing here - if you and Stephane are together?

I know, I know - I've said that before and you have replied that you guys are just friends. But I only say that this time because it's "Baby" Stephane that you posted, and if you are trying to tell me something, I understand. All I would ask, if that's the case, would be for you to please make it clear, so that I will know.

I love you no matter what the situation is, even if Stephane is your baby.  :)

But the main thing is the picture, and your heretofore unknown (by me) drawing talent. My Goodness, girl!

Midnight : Just checking in for Sweet Dreams. This afternoon I did see another post you made, maybe late last night, of a photo of a sky full of stars, so maybe you posted that at Sweet Dreams time, just guessing. The blue highlight trick is what I use to find posts by you that I miss in the newsfeed, ever since FB curtailed most of the posts they used to include in the Close Friends feature. But a lot of times, your posts don't show up in the blue highlight feature (actually called "posts You like") until much later after you've originally posted 'em.

All of which is to say that I sometimes see your posts a day or so after you've made them. Others come up right away. Anyhow, I will keep doing my best if you want me to.

I still don't know what the deal is with the Baby situation. I'm just wondering, cause I see that Stephane has your drawing in his profile photo now, so I just wonder if the drawing signifies something. You'd tell me, right? After all these years and all these blogs, I hope you would. And believe me, Elizabeth, I will understand if that is the case. I know that in general, your posts have fallen off a great deal, so if you have lost interest in me, it's okay to say so. I will still write, whatever the case may be. Please let me know.

Late Night Love + Madison Music Scene, etc.

Happy Late Night, my Darling,

I only keep posting so late just because things feel like they're kind of on the back-burner, and you aren't on FB much. I understand, so no worries, and I know you are busy with projects and life in general. All I ever ask is that if you're sick of me or think I'm getting boring (or for any other reason) please just let me know.

I did see the one post you made, about the Ultrea event, the release party. Might that be around the same time your video will be debuted? I hope so. I am really looking forward to seeing it. Did you see the FB post I "liked", earlier this morning, about the Madison music scene? It came from the Prog Rock UK radio station, a pretty major site for music in England. It was fairly in depth and really cool. And girl, you are stepping right into that scene with your work. Remember everything we've said about intent? Well this is how it works, in action!

Willpower and intent are huge psychic forces, and the world is mostly psychic. This is because the mind runs at full speed for about 16 hours out of every day, the mind projects who you are, it is constantly receiving input about how you are perceived, and then you - in turn - output that reception back to people, in the form of charisma and talent. And also Intent.

"My Intent is to create and to work in the visual and musical arts. You can count on me for good work".

This is what you are projecting 24/7/365, and because other minds are also running for 16 hours a day, people pick up on who you are and what you are about.

This is why we've talked about quiet confidence. Quiet confidence is the art of projecting to influence a desired outcome. It is focus and Intent, and now we are seeing it in action.

You "think" your life, and that is what your life becomes. It becomes exactly what you think it is, as long as you project that quiet confidence and stay focused on your Intent.

You seem to be a natural at it, so I'll shut up now, lol.

Late Night Love & Films

Hi, my Darling,

It's another late night check-in by me, just cause I had nothing to report and I figured you were busy. I did see your post a few minutes ago, for the UW film showcase. I am glad you are keeping a hand in the department at the University, and attending events. Would you like to make films as well as music videos? I mean, I know you've already made your Prairie Burns documentary and your other personal short videos combined with your music, but would you like to make traditional films as well, like say a short dramatic (or purely cinematic) piece?

It might be fun to just think of ideas for a script, even if you have no immediate plans in that direction. Just to get the wheels turning, you know?

It's great to have different ideas percolating all the time, even if you just keep 'em in your head.

I actually did watch a movie today, while Pearl was at Golden Agers. I am on a Western kick (as previously reported) and I found a great one from 1958 called "Ride The High Country" by Sam Peckinpaugh, who also made "The Wild Bunch", a film that I don't think is all that great, despite it's reputation. But today's film was excellent, and featured some spectacular photography of the California landscape in Inyo County, out near Death Valley.

One thing I recommend, and it's something I wish I had started as early as possible, is just to write stuff down all the time. Ideas, notes, thoughts, anything. I mean, look at me now, haha. I write pretty much every day, and even when it's just "my daily routine" I'm reporting, or even if it's a bunch of jibberish, the main thing is that it's written down. And you never know when an idea is gonna pop out of your writing.

Also, very important to remember that your Writing Voice is different than your Speaking Voice. Much, much different in fact. Writing voice comes from pure thought, from silence, and so you never know what thought will pop up.

Anyway, I think it's great that you are keeping a hand in things. It's clear that your peers and fellow cineastes think highly of you. But yeah, keep ideas percolating and write things down. Be your own client as well as seeking out clients.

Just a few thoughts for tonight. I am always looking for your posts, and I hope I'm not missing any.

Sweet Dreams

Happy Late Night, my Darling,

I'm just checking in to wish you Sweet Dreams. It was a quiet Memorial Day for me, just some shopping mostly. I didn't make it up to the Pioneer Cemetery observance. Pearl wakes up so often in the middle of the night lately that sleep is a precarious thing, most often something I have to catch up on later in the morning.

At any rate, I can still manage. I stopped by the Greek Festival, too, after my shopping, but they are charging admission now for the first time in 30 years, so I didn't go in. It was only three bucks, but for me it was more the fact of just getting charged, when I only wanted to see the church, and the fact that it had always been free in the past. None of the other churches ever charge for any of their festivals, so.......I didn't go.

No biggie.

I hope your day was good. I saw your post a day or two ago for your friend's band, playing at a Bratfest (or something along those lines), so I figured you might be at that, maybe shooting bands. And, I saw your post of your friend Morgin's picture.

Anyhow, I just hope things are going good. I will see you in the morning.
